First edition, first printing, published by Heinemann Ltd, 1955

This fascinating, almost prophetic novel explores American and Vietnamese relations in the 1950s through it’s three main characters; Fowler, a British journalist in his fifties, the quiet American, Pyle, an idealist CIA agent and Phuong, Fowlers lover.  Through the intertwining relationships and conflicts between the three characters, Greene follows the developing American involvement in Vietnam and ultimately predicts the outcome of the Vietnam War.
