First edition, second printing, published by Robert Hale, 1967

Sheila Van Damm gives a heart warming, behind the scenes memoir of life at the Windmill. Known by many for it’s Moulin Rouge style shows of ‘The Windmill Girls’- the brainchild of Vivian Van Damm, the theatre was also home to the on-going ‘Revudeville’ variety show, championing many unknown entertainment acts and comedians. The theatre famously continued to open throughout the Blitz, despite its incredibly vulnerable central London location. We Never Closed gives a picture of the struggle and support of a long-lost London.
