Harlem-born alto saxophonist and vocalist Knoel Scott has been a member of one of jazz’s greatest big bands, the Sun Ra Arkestra, since 1979, as well as leading projects and recording albums under his own name in New York, Paris, Alaska and currently London. His experience playing with many of the greatest visionaries of African-American musical history has contributed to the formation of a captivating and unmistakable musical voice.
Charlie Stacey, at 21, is a young English pianist taking jazz into the 21st century. His credits already include reaching the semi-finals of the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition 2012, and performances at major venues and festivals in Serbia, Bulgaria, Japan and the US to name a few. He currently performs with the Knoel Scott Quartet and his own trio.
Knoel and Charlie will reinterpret ballads and blues’ from the American songbook, with the edge and consciousness of tradition which is missing from all too much modern jazz.
