An evening to celebrate the would-be 86th birthday of JG Ballard, who has been hailed by Will Self as “the most important British writer of the latter half of the 20th century”.

For this intimate and informal get-together there will be various readings and some group discussion about the Great Sage of Shepperton. Bring your favourite Ballard extract, anecdote, or reflection. Invite all of your Ballardian friends. Raise as toast to the most brutal and prosaic of all our home-grown terrorists.

Expect talks from exciting people who knew him. Including:

Jeremy Reed, who Ballard described as "talent is almost extraterrestrial in its brilliance. He is Rimbaud reconfigured as the Man who fell to Earth, a visitor from deep space whose time machine was designed by Lautreamont and de Sade, and powered by the most exotic fuels the imagination has ever devised."

Dan O'Hara, a writer, academic, and Ballard expert who co-edited Extreme Metaphors, the definitive collection of interviews with Jim between 1967 and 2008.

Members free. Non-members £5. Buy tickets in advance here.
