SOHO: POETRY NIGHTS HOSTED BY CHIP MARTIN theme OLD FRIENDS

Last week, Chip was away. What’s more, we were all engulfed in darkness by a power-cut that took electricity away from every pub, restaurant, tower block, theatre, and club in Soho. In this romantic blitz-like atmosphere our regular Friday night was occupied by the fabulous New River Press - the first poet-led poetry press to come out of London for some time. Niall, Rosalind, Greta, Robert, and charming newbie Steve read out some extraordinary “page poems” published by their press. Dozens of candles lit a full house of roaring fans. The enthusiasm bought a few regulars out of the woodwork, and soon there was an open floor packed with familiar voices pronouncing late into the night.

This week a much missed Chip will finally be returning to us. Taking que from Mr. Martin, let our theme this time be: OLD FRIENDS.
