SOHO: POETRY NIGHTS HOSTED BY CHIP MARTIN theme EXPLORATION

The theme of ‘Paradise’ seemed to please. Angus at the start read an original on it; Lana at the end sang an old standard a cappella. She was not alone: the evening was of music as much as word, with another a cappella from Oliver – ‘Big Rock Candy Mountain’ – to which Sasha among others intoned choruses. Lail picked up a guitar and gave us a cover, while Erik strummed and crooned his original ‘Nightcrawler’. Charley kept to theme with a quatrain from ‘Omar Khayyam’; Barney tweaked it by wondering what happens to nasty people in afterlife. A poem by Robinson Jeffers contemplated the question from a dog’s point of view. Further human perspectives came from Niall, Liz, Leila and Seki, whose birthday it was, evoking a collective outbreak of song, by then haphazard in hitting the notes. Exuberance reigned and left us to wonder what next. Let’s try James’s suggestion:  EXPLORATION
