Elizabeth Smart, Canadian by birth, published one of the most powerful prose poems BY GRAND CENTRAL STATION I SAT DOWN AND WEPT of the 20th Century in 1945. A passionate account of her relationship with the poet George Barker. Angela Carter described it as "like Madame Bovary blasted by lightening".
