GEOFFREY HILL – TENEBRAE

30.00

First edition, published by Andre Deutsch, 1978

In Tenebrae, Geoffrey Hill’s deep involvement with history is present, drawing from old Spanish songs of sacred and profane love, the work of Elizabethan martyr-poet Robert Southwell, and the music of Southwell’s contemporary, John Dowland. Hill’s language has been described by Peter Porter as ‘superbly burnished’, combining precision and beauty, passion and control with authority.
