'American Poetry in the Mid-Century'

This book surveys the coming of age of American poetry during the crucial years between the Korean War and the Vietnam War, written by highly informed critic, Geoffrey Thurley. Thurley argues that American poetry achieved a newfound sense of authority and maturity during the 1950's and 60's, in turn providing a basis for his fresh and direct critical approach to the poems themselves. Poets examined include the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Berryman, Lowell and Roethke. This hardback is beautifully designed and features an illustration on the dust jacket by Roy Lichenstein, entitled, 'WHAAM!'
